What Is The Apartheid-Free Communities 
Quaker Affinity Group 

We are representatives from the many local Quaker congregations, yearly meetings, and Friends organizations that have signed the Apartheid-Free Communities Pledge and joined the growing interfaith movement to end Israeli apartheid, occupation, and settler-colonialism. As part of this effort, we are committed to accomplishing three important movement-building tasks: 

    • Encourage and support more Quaker congregations and organizations to sign on to the Apartheid-Free Communities Pledge and join the growing anti-apartheid movement; 

    • Foster active collaboration and the sharing of educational resources and action ideas among representatives from the various Apartheid-Free Quaker communities; and  

    • Promote affinity group members working in coalition with the wider Apartheid-Free Communities coalition locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. 

The Quaker Affinity Group holds that all people are beloved by God and that today’s work for peace, justice, and equality in Palestine/Israel is a faithful expression of the Quaker tradition of prophetic nonviolent witness in the service of what Martin Luther King called “the Beloved Community.” Our work builds on the World Council of Churches’ Call to End Apartheid, Occupation, and Impunity in Palestine and Israel; the joint statement A Different Future Is Possible: A Shared Quaker Vision for Peace in Israel and Palestine co-signed by the American Friends Service Committee, Canadian Friends Service Committee, Friends Committee on National Legislation, Friends World Committee for Consultation, Quakers in Britain, Quaker Council on European Affairs, Quaker Peace and Social Witness, and Quaker United Nations Office; as well as the more recent statement by many of these same Quaker groups Quakers Discern Genocide Is Occurring in Gaza and Urge Courageous Action.

Our faith-based activism is stronger when we “join others in working to end all support to Israel’s apartheid regime, settler colonialism, and military occupation.”
